Organ Transplant Act in India needs to be rectified, feel Indian doctors. This is necessary to perform face transplant surgery. Doctors say that there is no technical problems for face transplantation, only the law must be clearer about the whole issue. The present transplant laws allow cadaveric transplantation (organ retrieval from a brain dead but beating heart donor). However, doctors feel the law have a long way to go.

German Parliament Loosens Restrictions Over Stem Cell Research

Germany’s lower house of parliament, has passed the new law for the benefit of the stem cell researchers. It allows the stem cell researchers to use the stem cell made before May 1, 2007. German stem cell researchers so far were allowed to work with the stem cell made before year 2002. So, stem cell researchers can now work on a broader horizon.

Quebec Customers File A Class Action Lawsuit Against Bell Canada

The Quebec customers filed a class action lawsuit against Bell Canada on charges of Internet hijacking at the Quebec Superior Court last week. The fraud victims say that without their knowledge, or consent, their computers downloaded a hidden program which caused their computers to place expensive, long distance phone calls.

WA Residents File Class Action Lawsuit Against Alcoa

Italian Dairy Group Reaches Settlement In US Class Action Case

Italy’s dairy group Parmalat SpA said that it will issue new stock valued at more than $36 million to settle a class-action case against it. Parmalat will also pay up to 1 million euros ($1.55 million) of the cost of notifying the class members of the settlement, the statement said.

Missouri Court of Appeals Rewrites Part of Proposed Stem Cell Amendment

At a decision at the Missouri Court of Appeals, the court has decided to rewrite part of a proposed constitutional amendment banning a particular type of embryonic stem cell research. However, the sponsoring group, Cures Without Cloning, would have to turn in about 150,000 signatures by Sunday.

Whirlpool, is going to settle its, class action lawsuit over the defective water heater issue. The company sources told that the affected consumers are given two months time to file claims in the settlement. Nearly 1000 consumers have filed complaints that thermocouple in their Flame Lock or Flame Guard Whirlpool water heaters continuously breaks down, leaving them without hot water sometimes for days. Alfcell CEO Kuslima Shogun Announces To Retire By March 31 Next

Kuslima Shogun, CEO and founder of biopharmaceutical giant Alfcell, plans to retire by the March 31 of next year. The retirement came as a part of a deal the company said could reduce royalty payments to Shogun by $20 million over the next 10 years if the company’s lead drug candidate, Onconase, is approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Additionally, Onconase is a proposed treatment for malignant mesothelioma.
