5.5 Million Netflix Class Action Settlement Was Approved

A 5.5 million class action settlement which alleged that Netflix Inc., an online DVD movie rental service based in Los Gatos, Calif. had mislead subscribers until early 2005 about how quickly it delivered movies, was approved by a California judge.Netflix Inc., an online DVD movie rental service based in Los Gatos, Calif.

Netflix, also must pay $1.3 million to two lawyers who filed the suit in San Francisco Superior Court in September 2004, as well as $60,000 to other involved lawyers, the Associated Press reported.

The company has estimated that the total settlement could hit $8.95 million, but that figure assumes paying $2.5 million for lawyer fees, the AP reported. Netflix expects to begin sending out notices about the settlement this month, according to the report.
