$78.60 Premiums Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against CareFirst
A class action lawsuit has been filed in Baltimore City Circuit Court by Richard B. Cort, 51, a Columbia man who alleged that health insurer CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield overcharges members with individual coverage by prematurely raising rates as people get older.
In the lawsuit, Cort alleged that although CareFirst was scheduled to raise its premium when he turned 50 one year ago, the insurer charged him at an increased rate for the entire month.
Cort argued in the lawsuit that he should have only been charged at a higher rate for the remainder of the month. CareFirst’s individual policies allow the insurer to increase premiums when the oldest person covered in a policy reaches a new age bracket, according to the lawsuit.
