French Competition Regulator in Favor of Class Action Lawsuit
France’s Competition Council said it favors an optional legislative change that would allow individuals to file class action lawsuits as a means of seeking damages from unfair business practices to improve the balance of force between powerful companies and consumers, who are isolated by nature, for repairing damages that remain limited at the individual level, but which can represent large amounts as a whole.
Finance Minister Thierry Breton plans to submit a plan for allowing class action suits as part of consumer legislation to be debated in Parliament toward the end of this year.
