The General Motors settles lawsuit over the use of the coolant Dex Cool, which may effect the 1995 and 2004 model. GM faced allegations like: (i) Dex-Cool in the vehicles listed in the Notice caused problems with the vehicles’ engines or cooling systems, and (ii) that certain engine components, such as the nylon/silicone lower intake manifold gaskets installed in certain vehicles, among others. You are included in this proposed settlement if you own or lease or previously owned or leased any of the specified repairs related to the use of Dex-cool. Read below for details.
The settlement covers, intake manifold gasket failures, engine coolant sealing issues and sludge. However, the lawsuit is yet to be approved in the court. The settlement, covered by the lawsuit, covers the Group A, Group B and Group C vehicles. The lawsuit covers areas like replacement of failed nylon/silicone lower intake manifold gasket, repairs necessitated by engine coolant sealing among the other. Under the proposed settlement, GM will send cash reimbursements to class members who paid for Covered Repairs performed within seven years or 150,000 miles (whichever is earlier) after the original owner or lessee took delivery of the vehicle, and who submit timely and valid claims. However the amount of the cash is to be decided depending on the individual case, sources said.

Where and how do I file and be part of the class action lawsuit against GM requarding the Coolant Dex-Cool?
July 15th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I owned a 1997 Buick Park Avenue and had the above mentioned manifold problem and it cost me a little over $1,000 to repair. I drove it another year after it was repaired and then traded it for a Buick Rendevous 2004. I already had a repair on it that cost over $200 and was to do with the heater/coolant. How do I file my claims for the reimbursment. I have the receipts for the work scanned and ready to file.

I have a recently purchased 2005 Pontaic Grand Prix, it had been a “program car”.
We have just realized that our car has had GM Dex-Cool, my husband was checking the radiator and for the first time in our car owner history, saw the
orangy think stuff. Our mechanic was horrified.
We found out that this is Dex-Cool, we are planning on flushing our system this weekend and we are hoping that there isn’t any further damage.
I’m written this because so far I havn’t found any place that I can file for
to be a part of the class action lawsuit against GM requarding the Coolant Dex-Cool.
Please point us in the right direction.

I would like to inquire if there are any ACTIVE lawsuits regarding this issue? It appears after investigating that the recent class action suit was settled and the deadline for filing claims was October 2008.
I own a 2000 Monte Carlo LS with the 3.4 V6 that has this very issue. Car is at the dealer now for a lower intake manifold gasket replacement.
I would really like to get some of this money back from them as this is clearly an issue they know about and refuse to own up to.
Thanks

I just brought my car in for and intake manifold leakage and oil in my radiator. My mechanic told me about this problem. Can I get into the class action suit so I can get some of my money back? They shouldn’t close these without letting everyone have a chance to get in on it.

How do I get in on this class action lawsuit, we own a 2003 Buick Rendezvous and this will be the third time I have had to fix this same problem.
February 24th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
I would like to receive more information regarding the class action suite. The intake manifold gasket has to be replaced for the 3rd time on a 1998 Malibu with 105, 000 miles on it. GM has been contacted and we were informed that due to the mileage on the car that they would not be able assist with the funding the repair.

I HAVE HAD MY 96 FORD EX. TOWED TO MY MECHANIC ON SAT., I WAS HAVING IT DETAILED BY A FRIEND, AFTER RETURNING FROM THE CAR WASH HE CALLS AND TELLS ME HE THOUGHT MY WATERPUMP WENT OUT IT HAS LEAKED ALL IN HIS GARAGE. AFTER TALKING TO MY MECHANIC TODAY HE TOLD ME HE HAD TO REPLACE THE LOWER INTAKE MANAFOLD GASKET, DUE TO THE COOLENT THAT WAS USED AND RECEMENDED BY FORD. I WAS TOLD ABOUT THE CLASS ACTION SUIT TODAY AGAINST DEX COOL, BECAUSE OF THIS DEX COOL, IT IS COSTING ME $890.00
NO FAULT OF MY OWN, I WAS TOLD. HOW DO I GET MY NAME ON THE LIST

Just purchased 02 impala which uses dexcool, low coolant fluid message always on. I can smell coolant within 5 minutes engine is on but I do not see any leaks on under engine or anywhere on engine. I check coolant level when engine is cool and its always full. I don’t drive car long so that I can avoid engine internal damage. Please send me a solution to resolve this. I know water pump is functional due to upper hose heats up after 5 min which means thermostat opens up once engine is warm.
