Senate Nears Vote on Class Action Lawsuits Bill
A bill to shift class action lawsuits from state to federal courts is waiting for finel vote of the Senate.
The legislation is one of President Bush’s top priorities of his second term. Bush and other Republicans say it’s needed to keep lawyers from filing suits where they are more likely to get large payouts.
But opponents say it’s aimed at helping businesses escape multi-million dollar judgments for their wrongdoing. They also say it would hurt lawyers trying to litigate those cases.
