Final approval to $90 million click-fraud class-action settlement between Google Inc. and advertisers, alleged Google allowed third parties to drive up fees by fraudulent use of its Web search advertising system has been granted in Arakansas court.
Click fraud is considered the Achilles’ heel of the fast-growing Web search advertising industry. It occurs when a person, or automated computer program, repeatedly clicks on an ad with the intent of driving up the costs for the advertiser.
Companies who advertise on a search system may pay from a few cents to several dollars per click, depending on the subject matter. When automated, bills can potentially skyrocket for advertising customers.
