A class action lawsuit has been filed by 50 lower Green Ridge residents who are the flood victims alleges that the city, the Scranton Sewer Authority and an independent contractor were negligent in their handling of flooding in the neighborhood two years ago.
The Sewer Authority was named in the suit because the flooding caused sewage backups that were ignored by the authority, said Comegys Avenue resident Charles Armbruster, a plaintiff.
The third party named in the suit is New Jersey-based Kalimex, an independent contractor hired by the city to raze condemned houses to make way for a flood-control project.
The suit alleges the contractor did not take necessary steps to block water after removing condemned houses, adding to the 2004 flood damage.
The suit asks for a jury trial and an undetermined amount of money.
