Alliance between two famous airlines should be free from caterlisation or monopoly, says Civil Aviation Minister
In an interview Mr Praful Patel, Civil Aviation Minister today said that till now they found the alliance between the two largest airlines within the rules and regulations of the country. And the government sees no issues with that.
This interview was taken on 15th of October to know about the views of the Civil Aviation Minister regarding the alliance. The minister reveals that dealing with carterlisation is an easy job for the government as they have all the measures to deal with it.
“The government is armed with all rules and regulations and law to curtail cartelisation or monopoly. We have to see the finer details (of the alliance)… Whether they satisfy the legal parameters,” he told reporters here.
Moreover he adds that, the codeshare agreement between airlines is within the existing rules. And they do not have any issues with that but what is important is that these have to be within the rules and regulations of the DGCA, Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
“The DGCA has rules to permit airlines to do inter-line agreement or codeshare. But I do not wish to comment on this issue without seeing the final picture,” he said.
Earlier this week, Vijay Mallya-led Kingfisher Airlines and Naresh Goyal’s Jet Airways announced an alliance for codeshare, co-branding and joint ground handling services. The two airlines together control about 60 per cent of the market.
