Apex court defers Rajasthan Cricket Association elections

NEW DELHI - The Supreme Court Friday deferred the forthcoming Feb 22 elections for the office bearers of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) by a week to Mar 1, and ordered the appointment of former high court judge N.M. Kasliwal as observer for the elections.

A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P. Sathasivam ordered that the elections would be held as per the old unamended constitution of the association of Feb 11, 2005.

The bench passed the order on a plea by RCA president Lalit Modi who alleged that he had no faith in the officials holding the election as per the amended constitution. He had sought the apex court’s intervention to ensure a free and fair election.
