Judge won’t move ‘Rockefeller’ trial out of Boston
BOSTON — A Boston judge won’t move the kidnapping trial of a man who calls himself Clark Rockefeller.
Judge Frank Gaziano last week denied a defense request to move the May 26 trial. But defense attorneys say Gaziano could reconsider if there is difficulty picking a jury.
Rockefeller’s real name is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter (GAYR’-hahrtz-ry-tur).
Prosecutors say he kidnapped his 7-year-old daughter during a supervised visit in Boston in July. They were found six days later in Baltimore. His daughter was unharmed.
Authorities say Gerhartsreiter, a German national, has used a string of false names since moving to the United States in the 1970s.
California authorities have labeled him a “person of interest” in the 1980s disappearance of a San Marino couple.
