Embarq and Sprint to face lawsuit for violating federal retirement law

U.S. District Judge Kathryn H. Vratil has allowed a class-action lawsuit accusing telecommunications company Embarq Corp. of age discrimination and illegally canceling retirement benefits to move forward.

The lawsuit accused Embarq and Sprint of violating federal law protecting retirement benefits and seeks to have those benefits restored.

The 15 plaintiffs worked for and retired from local telephone companies that were subsidiaries of then-Sprint Corp. Sprint spun off the local divisions to Embarq in 2006 but is included in the case because it was in charge during most of the benefit plan’s lifetime.
