Facing death, convicted Phoenix killer testifies
PHOENIX — A man convicted of gunning down two people in a series of random attacks that terrified Phoenix says he confessed so he could testify against his partner in the killings.
Samuel Dieteman gave his testimony in Tuesday’s penalty phase of his trial where a jury is weighing the death penalty or life in prison.
Dieteman was a key witness against co-defendant Dale Hausner was handed six death sentences earlier this year for the 14-month shooting spree in 2005 and 2006 in Phoenix’s “serial shootings’ case.
Dieteman pleaded guilty to two of the six murders.
