A great fall indeed! 73 years Ellen Wall sued the city way back in May 2005 while she came here to celebrate their 50th anniversary wall came to visit the island with her husband and unfortunately tripped and fell on broken Kapillani Boulevard.
According to a Honolulu law firm this incidence compelled the city to pay a record $321,321 as an injury settlement to the old lady. Attorney Dan Chur confirmed that this is the largest settlement ever, the city had to pay.
Wall filed a lawsuit in 2007. Arbitration went in favor of Wall, but the city appealed, sending the case to court. Finally city decided to settle shortly before trial was scheduled to start earlier this month, and few days back agreed to pay the settlement.
But Wall have to loose a lot, as a result of her fall she lost her vision in her right eye, surgeons try nine surgeries but failed to restore her vision.
However, a old friend suggests me, that why not recollect the whole amount of settlements from the salary of the responsible persons? for them some one lost her eye for the life time, and taxpayers hard earn money gone for nothing. So why not let them learn the discipline in a hard way ? what you think?
