Inmate mothers bound by chains while giving birth seeking class action against Cook County Department
Former inmate mothers who were brutally chained by the Cook County Sheriff and his inhuman Department while giving birth, are seeking class action status to a lawsuit.
The first lawsuit was filed last week by a woman who says she was in shackles while in labor until her doctor demanded they be removed.
According to sheriff’s spokes person what ever they done was as per the department policy and state law.
Forty-year-old Jackson is among four former Cook County Jail inmates suing the sheriff’s department. They claim the practice of restraining women in labor violates Illinois law and the US Constitution.
