Farmers in New York will soon get Lemon Law protection which effectively from April for new tractors and other farm equipment they buy or lease.
Governor George Pataki has signed legislation requiring that new farm equipment costing more than $1,500 be covered by a one-year warranty.
If a dealer cannot repair significant defects in a piece of farm equipment, he must replace it or provide a full refund.
The dealer would be off the hook, though, if the problem resulted from abuse, neglect or unauthorized alterations to the equipment.
New York already provides lemon law protection for new and used cars, wheelchairs, motor homes and pets.
