NY swindler’s ex admits she sent him $300 in jail
VALHALLA, N.Y. — The ex-girlfriend of swindler Samuel Israel III has admitted in a New York court that she tried to mail him $300 while he was in jail.
Defense attorney Richard Strassberg says Debra Ryan of Armonk, N.Y., pleaded guilty Thursday to introducing contraband into a prison. Mount Pleasant Town Judge Robert Ponzini promised a sentence of probation.
The 46-year-old Ryan was charged after three $100 bills were found in the pages of a magazine during screening at the Westchester County Jail. The magazine was traced to Ryan.
Ryan admitted in February that she helped Israel skip out on his 20-year prison sentence for bilking hedge fund investors. She is serving four months’ home confinement.
Israel was sentenced Wednesday to two extra years for his failure to surrender.
