Hutchison: Keep respectful the debate over nominee
WASHINGTON — Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison says the debate over Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination should be respectful and based on her record — not on labels applied to the federal judge.
Some conservatives have criticized Sotomayor because of remarks she made about viewing cases through her personal experience.
Hutchison says she’s waiting to review Sotomayor’s record and will give Sotomayor a “fair shot” when considering her for the high court.
Republican Hutchison is considering a run for governor of Texas, a state with a large Latino population.
Hutchison appeared Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
